Tab order

Most users navigate web interfaces using a keyboard in a predictable order. In Western languages and interfaces, this is left-to-right and top-to-bottom. Following this pattern is important because:

Predictability and Usability

Users expect focus to move in the same direction as they visually read content. If the focus suddenly jumps around the page, it becomes confusing and slows navigation.

Screen Reader Compatibility

Screen readers follow the DOM order. If the tab order follows a natural left-to-right flow, the experience is consistent for all users.

Reduced Cognitive Load

A logical progression reduces the mental effort required to understand and interact with a page.
